Who we are & What we do…

Our story

It all started in 1927 when Oscar J. Krieger decided to open a feed store in the Kirkwood area. The business started as a hatchery that raised and sold chickens and rabbits; and has since grown into a feed and garden store. Ronald Krieger took over the business and is still a proud owner to this day. Family roots run deep here as the 4th generation makes their way into the business.

Our goal is to provide the best possible service to our loyal customers. Here, you’ll feel just like family. We appreciate all of your questions and love to help! With expertise like ours, you’ll surely leave pleased and satisfied.

Fun Fact: The OK stands for Oscar Krieger, our founder!

O.K. Hatchery is a wonderful local business. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I never feel pressured to buy anything beyond what I go for and they are always so pleasant and willing to help. I have been buying from them for over twenty years now and have never had a bad experience. I particularly appreciate their expertise when it comes to local growing conditions, including local problems with weeds and insects, along with straightforward solutions. I look forward to patronizing them for many years to come, and I'm grateful for all the help they have provided over the years. Specifically, they are a great resource for appropriate local uncoated grass seed that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Don't assume that they are more than the big box stores. They are sometimes cheaper and once in awhile a lot cheaper. They were by far the cheapest resource for pelletized gypsum for me recently. Support local business! Especially when they are as terrific as these people are.

OK Hatchery is a local treasure, and an excellent resource for backyard gardening, birding, and animal care. I'm not a farmer, but I understand they are helpful to farmers, too. Their selection of pots, garden sculpture/pottery and yard decor is beyond compare. --You never know what you'll find here. There is way more than meets the eye. You'll find birdseed & feeders, and garden tools, of course, a wonderful variety of annuals and perennials and seeds, but also greeting cards, decorative yard & garden flags, mailbox covers, lanterns, children's toys, indoor decor, fairy garden miniatures, local honey, hand lotions, etc. You have to visit! Everyone will find something they need or didn't know they needed! And if you have a question, they have an answer or can point you in the right direction. I hope this wonderful place will always have booming business and will remain a much-needed resource for the community.
